About Calivan Distributing

History
1967
Apollo missions were getting the U.S. closer to the moon, protests were heating up over the Vietnam War, Elvis married Priscilla and the Los Angeles Coliseum hosted the first Super Bowl.

In addition, Gary Moore and Buff Atkinson founded Calivan Distributing delivering milk, eggs and ice cream to independent restaurants, donut shops, hospitals and schools.

1971
Buff developed other business interests; Gary expanded the product line, service area and number of customers.

1978
Calivan bought land in Fullerton to build additional frozen, refrigerated and dry storage.

1990
Gary Moore buys out Buff to focus solely on Calivan’s customers.

2002
Gary’s son Mark and his wife Julie, leave the high-tech industry to assist Gary with the management of Calivan.

Today
Calivan operates a fleet of trucks that service hundreds of customers in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Our unique in-truck invoice system reduces errors and simplifies administration.

Tomorrow

Market Updates

Cheese continues to trade in a narrow range. The "cull rate", the number of cows dairy farmers take out of production has increased. Estimates are that by October, there will be 5 billion pounds less milk from the 176 pound total market, a 3% reduction. This is more than enough to reverse the downward trend and cause dairy product prices to rise. If the national economy begins a recovery and demand increases, we could see significantly higher prices by the end of the year.
